- Directed learning: Direct contact time with teachers and trainers. Examples: lectures, seminars, tutorials, laboratory practical, workshops, fieldwork, etc.
- Self-Directed: Time spent in private studying. Examples: assignments, course projects, undertaking practical tasks, self-study, reading, searching the internet for information, etc.
- Assessment: Time spent in assessment. Examples: time spent on preparing and carrying out formative and summative assessments, etc
